Chris D. Geddes, a chemistry professor at UMBC and director of UMBC's Institute of Fluorescence (IoF), has been named a 2010 “Innovator of the Year” by "The Daily Record".

Geddes, who received the same honor in 2008, holds more than 60 international patents for his work on fluorescence. In addition to his faculty position, Geddes serves as chief scientific officer for Plasmonix, Inc., a new company at bwtech@UMBC's Clean Energy Technology Incubator that has licensed 22 IoF discoveries and now offers products used in life science research and manufacturing.
