BWTECH@UMBC CONSTRUCTION REPORT
March 2008

bwtech@UMBC is a 41-acre research and technology community at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). bwtech@UMBC has a total development capacity of up to 350,000 square feet of office and laboratory space. The park will ultimately comprise five new state-of-the-art buildings occupied by research and technology firms. The firms have access to university expertise, students, technology, programs and facilities. Construction of the university's research and technology park is on schedule.

5520 Research Park Drive

The two buildings under development at the Park are moving along according to schedule. The shell of the 110,000 SF COPT building located at 5520 Research Park Drive will be completed in early July 2008. The brick and stone work is completed, the glass window installation is nearly complete, and corrugated metal panel work has begun on the east and north sides of the building. COPT will begin sitework and final grading over the next week and will begin installing concrete curbs and sidewalks in the first half of April. Park administration is actively looking for tenants for the building and welcomes referrals from the campus. Successful referrals will be compensated and should be forwarded to Ellen Hemmerly (hemmerly@umbc.edu ; 410-455-8400).

5525 Research Park Drive

The 100,000 SF Erickson RLTV building located at 5525 Research Park Drive is scheduled to be completed by December 2008. Presently, the basement, foundation walls and first floor concrete deck is complete. The second floor concrete deck will be poured this week and all decks and steel will be completed by the end of April. Sitework for the building is ongoing and will be completed by early Fall 2008.

Erickson is bringing additional electrical power to their building which will create some disruption on Hilltop Circle and Research Park Drive . The project will begin this week at the intersection of Hilltop Road and Hilltop Circle . Manholes will be installed and trench crossings will be made close to the intersection. During construction there will always be at least one lane opened in both directions on Hilltop Circle . The anticipated completion date for this project is June 2008 however most of the disruption to traffic flow will occur in the next month.

Finally, construction is expected to start within a few weeks on a raised pedestrian walkway which will connect the Park with the campus. This crossing will run east of Pig Pen Pond and will enable easy access between the Park and campus. Any stakes or fencing on the site should not be disturbed. Further details will be made available shortly.
