University Resources


Library privileges at the Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery are available. The library has holdings of more than 750,000 books and 4,200 journals, and offers access to the 13 libraries within the University System of Maryland.

Campus conference facilities
including the University Center, Albin O. Kuhn Library, Technology Center, classrooms and lecture halls are available at the same rates assessed to University users. Several facilities are equipped with video conferencing systems.

Customized professional education and training is available through UMBC in topics including electronic commerce, information technology, instructional systems development and online and distance learning. UMBC has conducted successful employee training programs for such clients as Northrop Grumman, Computer Sciences Corporation and the U.S. Government.

UMBC’s Computer Certification Training Center (CCTC) offers training in Microsoft, A+, Novell, Oracle and other marketable information technology certifications.

Athletic and recreational facilities can be accessed for an annual membership fee. Indoor facilities include: basketball courts, 1/10th-mile track, 8-lane/25-yard pool, and Nautilus® and aerobic equipment. Outdoor facilities include: 50-meter swimming pool, quarter-mile track, tennis courts, softball and soccer fields, volleyball and lit basketball courts, and a fitness/parcours trail. Annual membership fees to access all UMBC facilities range from $200 to $290, depending on the number of employees who join.

Cultural offerings on campus include: the Maryland Stage Company, Phoenix Repertory Dance Company, and the UMBC Symphony Orchestra as well as the UMBC Fine Arts Gallery, Albin O. Kuhn Library Gallery and frequent lectures on a variety of topics.

Campus day care facilities are available. The center is open from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm and accepts children ages 2-5. The cost for bwtech@UMBC tenants would be $110 per week for full-time care. Campus Security Services provide regular patrols for the entire campus community.

Dining facilities are open daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late night meals, offering choices including: Mercado’s Pizza & Pasta, Chick-Fil-A and daily entrees. Catering services are also available.

Shuttle Service is offered for a modest fee. The UMBC shuttle includes stops for downtown Baltimore, Camden Yards, BWI MARC/Amtrak station and I-195 Park and Ride.
