The bwtech and UMBC Connection

UMBC is committed to research and innovation. Its strengths include the life sciences, environmental studies, astrophysics and engineering.

bwtech@UMBC companies have the opportunity to collaborate with talented students and faculty in all disciplines -- 85% of companies are actively involved with the university.

Current companies have engaged in over 100 formal research collaborations with UMBC’s talented faculty and students.

  • Seventy-five percent of Incubator and Accelerator companies have hired UMBC students as interns. Most of the students have come from the fields of chemistry/biochemistry, computer science, information systems and mechanical engineering. 
  • Tenants of the bwtech@UMBC Incubator programs can participate in the bwtech@UMBC  Intern Subsidy Program, an incentive program that assists incubator companies to employ interns.

Entrepreneurs in Residence

bwtech@UMBC employs an Entrepreneur-in-Residence model for providing direct assistance to resident companies and affiliates.  Entrepreneurs in Residence are serial entrepreneurs who assist client managements in all aspects of company operations, including intellectual property and licensing, grant preparation, corporate governance and financing.
